Fact Sheet

The Art of Placement & Sacred Geometry ©

Terminology: 'Interior Redesign', 'use-what-you've-got decorating', 'placement decorating', 'visual coordinating', 'Real Estate staging'... all the same thing... means to decorate a space using the existing contents of a home, in a short period of time, shooting for maximum impact on a tight budget.

Cost: Common methods of charging for this service are flat fee (nationally, between $125.00 and $995.00 each room), hourly fee ($75.00 an hour with a 3 hour minimum is norm), or by the square foot (starting at thirty-five cents a square foot with a minimum of $350.00 and up).

Rules: Designers in this field prefer to work on the ‘Christmas morning’ surprise theme… meaning that the homeowner is encouraged to be out of the way and out of the house while the work actually takes place.  Upon returning, they get to be ‘surprised’ by the dramatic transformation of the space.

If you stay and watch or participate, they charge more.

Customers are never disappointed.  Designers use what they find in the space, or even in other parts of the house, to make the magic work.  Time allotted to the project depends on the size of the room and how much stuff there is to work with.  One room, one day is norm.

Contemporary History: Surely, many designers have practiced this form of instant-gratification decorating for years, but HGTV’s Decorating Cents made the concept reputable.

The association responsible for the popularity and success of the trade is Interior Redesign Industry Specialists, whose members make up the “talent” for the interior redesign segments of Decorating Cents.

IRIS provides the world with qualified designers who have passed through their training programs administered by their own Instructors of Redesign Concepts.

Ancient History: Feng Shui, Vastu, Greek Perfect Form… methods of expressing Sacred Geometry in China, India and Europe… ways to bring the sacred, esoteric principles of the Universe into the mundane world.

Used in temples, cathedrals and important buildings of the ancient world, the Golden Proportion, Pythagorean geometry or their more ancient, intuitive predecessors, codified universal order and man’s place in it.  When these principles are used and honored in a home, they elevate it into sacred space, making the house a sanctuary.

The best interior design today uses these ideals, on purpose or intuitively.
